Jorge Liderman (1957-2008) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied with Mark Kopitman at the Samuel Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, Israel, and with Ralph Shapey and Shulamit Ran at the University of Chicago in Illinois. From 1989 until his death he taught at the University of California, Berkeley.
Liderman's music has been commissioned and performed by the American Composers Orchestra, Arditti String Quartet, Boston Musica Viva, Chicago Pro Musica, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Divertimento Ensemble, London Sinfonietta, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Netherlands Wind Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Radio France, and San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, among others. His work has been featured at festivals throughout Europe as well as Mexico's International Forum and Expo '90 in Osaka, Japan. Liderman was a recipient of the ASCAP Raymond Hubell Music Award, Argentine Tribune of Composers Prize, BMW International Music Theater Prize, and fellowships at the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt and Tanglewood Music Center. The Albany, CAMU, and CRI labels have recorded his music.
