about the music

Anthony Coleman:

"A haunting quality of the recent English dance music called 'acid jazz' is the way that soloistic phrases from jazz solos -- solos which originally strove towards at least the illusion of spontaneity -- are removed from context and ossified: repeated over and over until every quirk is as familiar as a verbal tic. This, as well as an approach to timbre which has often been referred to as 'horrible noise,' was the basic generating principle of Acid Jazz Burnout."
