"These fanfares were written in January 1995 for the Investiture of Myles Brand as President of Indiana University, held on January 19, 1995. That first performance was given by the Indiana University School of Music Herald Trumpets, conducted by professor Edmund Cord."

David Dzubay (b. 1964) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised in Portland, Oregon. He studied composition and trumpet at Indiana University in Bloomington and was a fellow at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts and June in Buffalo in New York. Dzubay's principal teachers include Donald Erb, Frederick Fox, Eugene O'Brien, Lukas Foss, Oliver Knussen, Allan Dean, and Bernard Adelstein. Previously on faculty at the University of North Texas in Denton, Dzubay currently teaches composition and directs the New Music Ensemble at Indiana University.

Dzubay's music has been performed by orchestras and chamber groups throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. He has received commissions from Detroit Chamber Winds, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Minnesota and National Repertory Orchestras, Oregon and Utah Symphonies, and Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. Other awards and fellowships include the Barlow and Fromm Foundations, Aaron Copland Fund for Music, American Music Center, the National Band Association's William Revelli Memorial Prize, and Wayne Peterson Prize. Dzubay's music has been recorded on the Centaur, Crystal, innova, First Edition, Gia, Indiana University, and Klavier labels.

As a conductor, Dzubay has led the Greater Dallas Youth Symphony Orchestra, Kentuckiana Brass and Percussion Ensemble, Music from China, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, Voices of Change, and groups at a number of US festivals. From 1995 to 1998 he served as composer-consultant to the Minnesota Orchestra, helping direct their "Perfect Pitch" reading sessions.
